Comparison between i3 and i5

i3 and i5When you ask what is the best processor in the market, no doubt Intel will be the answer when it comes to processors. Intel is definitely in the lead or excellent performance.

I read some article in the net comparing the i3 and i5, it is says: when it comes to narrowing down your options the competing factors are speed, quality, and price but what the matters more is the Price vs Speed, in this case i3 vs i5.

Here is the sum up a few significant differences between i3 and i5:

The core I3 was made to replace the intel celeron processor however it exceeded the expectations because the I 3 is very capable of keeping up with a 3 ghz core 2 duo. The i3 uses less power, better cache with a level  3 cache instead of a level 2. But if your looking for the higher level of cache, I recommend the i5 which has level 6 cache.

The race between i3 and i5 against the clock

i3 has 4 way processing machine which gives you 2 physical cores and 2 virtual cores.  i5 gives you 4 physical cores unlike the i7 that gives you 4 virtual cores 4 physical cores that allows for 8 way processing.

What the virtual core allows you to do, is some hyper threading with a normal processor you have task a & task b, when task a is done running the task b is allowed to run. With hyper threading you can run task a & task b at the same time.

i3 and i5 feature comparison

Processors i3

i5

Clock speed Range from 2.50 GHz to 3.30 GHz 2.50 GHz to 3.30 GHz
Cache 3.0MB 6.0MB
# of Cores 2 4
# of threads 4 4
Intel Turbo Boost 2.0

i3 Features

• Intel HT Technology allows each core of your processor to work on two tasks at the same time.

• Intel Smart Cache is dynamically allocated to each processor core based on workload, which significantly reduces latency and improves performance.

i5 Features

• Built in features is Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 dynamically increases the processor frequency as needed by taking advantage of thermal and power headroom when operating below specified limits.

• Intel Smart Cache is dynamically allocated to each processor core based on workload, which significantly reduces latency and improves performance.

• Advanced Encryption Standard New Instructions add hardware acceleration to AES algorithms and speeds up the execution of AES applications.

Hope this article will help you to decide which processors of Intel you will purchase, but it depends in your budget. for my personal opinion? the i5 is the best would you get if your in mid budget and also the computers they go obsolete and very quick and best if you got a really good standard of selecting of items that will last long in the future use.
